WithAView is an INIT for use with system 6.0.x that adds the same functionality (and a little more) for easy changing of the view mode as that found in system 7. Just as with system 7, you can change the view in a Finder window by clicking on the appropriate portion of the window. In other words, clicking on any one of Name, Size, Kind or Date Modified will cause the window’s view to change to that mode. Moreover, clicking to the left of Name will cause the view to change to by Icon. If the window is being viewed by icon, then clicking in any part of the top portion of the window (say on item, for example) will cause the view to switch back to by Name.
Installation
WithAView is an INIT, so you must place it in your system folder and then restart your computer. That’s all there is to it.
Comments
If WithAView doesn’t seem to work properly, then most likely it is because someone (you?) changed the Finder’s LAYO resource. The most likely problem is that the Column Justification parameter is set to a value other than 0, 1, 2, or 4. In such a case, WithAView may not respond properly to clicks in Finder Windows. It is easy to check to see if this is the case and, if so, to change it. Using ResEdit on a copy of the Finder, open the LAYO resource and locate the Column Justification field. Set this field to a value of 0, 1, 2, or 4. I recommend 2 as a good choice.
